tools and equipment

You can get all the hand tools for this project that are mentioned here in my online tool shop. If you have done any of my other project kits then you probably already have most of the tools required. If you don't have any tools yet, I'd suggest getting Recommended Tool Set 2.

Included in Recommended Tool Set 2:

  • Small saw, with fine teeth and stiffening spine
  • Small hammer, somewhere around 115-200g
  • Either 18mm or 24mm chisel - must be sharp!
  • Japanese marking knife or Stanley knife
  • Square with measurements along the blade in mm
  • 10mm diameter countersink (snail/de-burring type)
  • Awl, for easy marking of accurate points to drill
  • Mallet - a small wooden or 400g plastic one
  • 300mm steel rule for accurate marking
  • 4 x 200mm capacity clamps (smaller ones will work)

You'll also need:

  • Wood glue - I use Titebond 3, available in my tool shop
  • Cordless drill (correct drill are bits included with your kit)
  • Pozidrive size two screwdriver OR
  • Screwdriver bit and holder to go in your drill
  • Gloves for handling the wood when it's hot
  • Oil for finishing. I used Rubio Monocoat pure oil

Nice to have:

  • Small cheap side cutters or pliers -great for cutting tiny dowels
  • Tool roll or box to keep your tools in good condition
