For this collection I’ve used a small quantity of attractive timber, either walnut, oak or ash to make delicate furniture that shows off the material’s abilities and its beauty. I launched the collection at London Design Fair 2017 and have returned in 2018 with new additions to the range: trays with turned legs and round mirrors.
The range combines midcentury typologies with much older Shaker craft techniques like the swallow-tail joint that fastens the mirrors and trays, classic cabinetmaking details like the sliding dovetail that supports the tops of the plant hanger and shelf and experimental steam bending techniques used to create the sculptural loops of wood that characterise the range.
Fenella Elms is a ceramic artist who makes wonderful porcelain 'flows' amongst other work. She had seen my Loop mirror frames and asked me if I could make them to frame her work. After lots of experiments we came up with a gorgeous ebonised oak finish that really works nicely and looks perfect with the handmade porcelain discs of the pieces.
